Certificate Courses

Certificate Course on Gender and Macro Economics Policy, Planning and Budgeting

The course is designed in response to the growing demand for a critical analysis of poverty and gender implications of macroeconomic policies in East and Southern Africa. It is designed to equip participants with basic concepts on the links between gender and the economy, as well as to develop skills for a gender and class analysis of the macroeconomics policy frameworks; the budgeting process and planning.

The course aims at sharpening the understanding of its participants on the links between gender, economics and participatory democracy; gender budgeting; and why and how to enhance women and men's participation and benefit from public policy and budget management at all levels as both an issue of equity and of economic efficiency. It provides participants with tools, procedures, and advocacy strategies for gender budgeting, and gender-responsive and transformative economic planning. Normally the course is conducted in October or early November.

Certificate course on Gender Policy and HIV/AIDS

This interactive training draws participants from all over Africa with the objective of strengthening their gender analytical skills and capacities in the on-going debates, policies, programmes, and activities related to HIV and AIDS. Participants are drawn from government, NGOs, CBOs, media, policy-makers, private sectors and others.

In the training, participants share information, experiences and lessons learnt in addressing HIV& AIDS issues in the continent. They also articulate challenges and opportunities in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of progressive and gender focused HIV interventions as well as develop concrete action plans to address gender gaps/ issues within HIV&AIDS policies and programmes in their areas. Normally the course is conducted in June or early July.

Certificate course on Gender budgeting and performance tracking

This training is a strategic tool to boost gender mainstreaming in economic planning and financial management. It is designed as an approach which assures that the budget reaches out to all people, men and women and provides opportunity for their participation in the budgeting process and management.

It is the response for the need to analyse the impact of expenditure and revenue on women and girls as compared to men and boys. The training will sharpen participant’s knowledge and skills in understanding the impact of policies, where adjustment can be made, and where resources need to be reallocated to address poverty and gender inequalities. The training normally takes place in May or early June
